Holding onto Hope, Preparing to Heal
Naomi joined Building Hope Project in Primary 3, at a time when her family was struggling to cover even the most basic school costs. Raised by a single mother from the DR Congo and an absent father battling addiction, Naomi’s early life was marked by instability and emotional hardship. But through BHP, she found the steady support she needed—her tuition and meals were covered, and her potential was nurtured through consistent encouragement and mentorship. A quiet but committed student, Naomi developed a deep sense of responsibility and strength, often seen helping her mother sell cassava chips in the evenings after school to support their household.
Now a graduate of primary school and making preparations to begin nursing school, Naomi continues to stand by her mother, whom she calls her hero. She remains closely connected to BHP’s alumni network and support systems, leaning on them as she readies herself for this next step in her education. With a deep desire to help others and dreams of creating a stable home of her own one day, Naomi is an example of resilience rooted in compassion. As she puts it, she is determined not to be defined by her circumstances, but by her purpose to serve and uplift those around her.
